Former Bemidji State hockey players Andrew Murray and Matt Read are playing the waiting game.

The two are waiting to see if they will make the opening night rosters for their respective NHL clubs. The NHL roster deadline is Wednesday.

The San Jose Sharks made cuts Monday and Murray was not on the list. Murray has earned praise for his speed in the preseason, has played well on the penalty kill and the San Jose Murcury News is reporting he likely will earn a roster spot. He is expected to play on a line with newly signed Brad Winchester and Andrew Desjardins.

Read had an exceptional rookie training camp with the Philadelphia Flyers. He tied Claude Giroux for the team lead in preseason points with two goals and five assists. The Flyers appear to have two open roster spots according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The choice appears to be between three forwards: Read, Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier.
